Artist Statement
Texture has always been an important element in my work influenced by the rocks, mesas and arroyos of New Mexico where I once lived, and by the ancient walls and ruins I have visited in my travels. My aesthetic vision draws me to the eroded, cracked and the rusted; the creviced, gnarled and the frayed; the warped, withered and the worn. The textures, colors and composition of such things inspires me to use scraps, fibers, found objects and photos to develop my mixed media collages. The unique combination of these materials allows me to communicate in a contemporary message that is gratifying to me and challenging to the viewer.
